Rooster tails

A rooster tail is a spray of water that fires up and out of the main flow. Rooster tails are formed when fast moving water passes over a rock or obstacle causing such a drastic change to the direction of the water that it shoots up into the air. Generally speaking we try to avoid rooster tails as they tend to want to flip kayakers. However, there are some rooster tails that we can travel over safely and some that can provide us the opportunity to play and go airborne.
