The River Bed
The river bed is a varied surface that can contain anything from rocks and mud to a whole assortment of other debris. When we are in the river without our boat we want to be very careful not to slip on the river banks and rocks at the edges of the river but more importantly we also need to make sure we don’t get caught on anything on the bottom of the river. Especially in the river flow. When there is any current at all we want to make sure we don’t stand up and that we swim in the safe whitewater swimming position, on our back, with our feet downstream and ‘nose and toes’ pointed up towards the sky.
See the getting started section for more information on the safe whitewater swimming position.
